Badge Use Policy
Last updated: June 17, 2026
EdgeCore ("us", "we", or "our") operates data centers and secured facilities requiring controlled physical access. This policy establishes standardized badge usage and access control procedures for all personnel, contractors, vendors, and visitors. Proper badge usage protects personnel, customers, critical infrastructure, and company assets from unauthorized access. By accessing EdgeCore facilities, you agree to comply with the procedures outlined in this policy.
I. Purpose
Policy objective
The purpose of this policy is to establish standardized badge usage and access control procedures for all EdgeCore personnel, contractors, vendors, and visitors accessing EdgeCore facilities.
Security protection
Proper badge usage protects personnel, customers, critical infrastructure, company assets, and information from unauthorized access.
Compliance
Adherence to this policy supports physical security controls, access accountability, life safety requirements, and regulatory obligations.
II. Scope
Applicability
This policy applies to all employees, contractors, consultants, temporary personnel, vendors, visitors, and any other individuals granted physical access to EdgeCore facilities.
Covered areas
This policy applies to all EdgeCore offices, data centers, operational facilities, construction sites, and secured spaces protected by electronic access control systems.
III. Badge requirements and responsibilities
Badge ownership
Access badges remain the property of EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure and may be revoked at any time.
Badge display
Personnel must wear their assigned badge above the waist and in plain view at all times while on EdgeCore property.
Badge protection
Personnel shall not:
- Share badges or credentials
- Loan badges to another person
- Use another individual's badge
- Duplicate, alter, photograph, or reproduce badges
- Circumvent access control procedures
Lost, stolen, or damaged badges
Lost, stolen, damaged, or malfunctioning badges must be reported to Physical Security immediately and no later than the end of the individual's shift.
Badge collection
Upon separation of employment, termination of contract, or at the request of management, access badges must be returned to Security. The access badge must not be retained, transferred, or given to any other individual.
IV. Security responsibilities
Challenge requirement
Personnel are expected to challenge individuals who are not displaying a valid badge in secure areas or immediately notify Physical Security if they are uncomfortable doing so. An appropriate challenge statement is: "Hello, may I help you?"
Security culture
Security controls are implemented to protect customers, personnel, critical infrastructure, and customer data. Convenience shall never take precedence over established security requirements.
All personnel are empowered and expected to stop activity that appears unsafe, suspicious, or inconsistent with approved security procedures.
V. Badge access procedures
Entering secured areas
Door safety
As you approach a secured door, knock first to ensure no one is on the opposite side. If the door is transparent and it is clear no one is on the opposite side, knocking is not required. If individuals leaving and entering a facility knock simultaneously, the individual entering the facility shall proceed first.
Authentication
After knocking, present your badge to the reader and, where applicable, complete biometric authentication.
Access granted
When access is granted:
- Open the door and proceed through immediately.
- Verify that no unauthorized individual enters with you.
- Ensure the door fully closes and secures behind you.
Access denied
If access is denied:
- Attempt the authentication process one additional time.
- If access is denied again, stop and contact Physical Security.
Sequential entry
Each individual must complete their access transaction and allow the door to fully close and re-secure before the next individual begins the access process.
Doors without readers
Where badge readers are not installed, multiple authorized individuals may use the door simultaneously. The last individual through the door is responsible for ensuring the door fully closes and secures.
VI. Tailgating and piggybacking
Prohibited activities
Every individual must badge independently through all badge-controlled access points. Personnel shall not hold secure doors open for others, regardless of familiarity, title, position, or perceived urgency.
Tailgating
Tailgating occurs when an unauthorized individual follows an authorized person through a secured door without independently presenting credentials.
Piggybacking
Piggybacking occurs when an authorized individual knowingly allows another person to enter without independently badging.
Both tailgating and piggybacking are strictly prohibited.
VII. Visitor and escort requirements
Escort badge holders
Personnel issued visitor or escort badges must remain with their designated escort at all times.
Escort responsibilities
The escort is responsible for:
- Visitor accountability
- Visitor location
- Compliance with security procedures
- Ensuring visitors are never left unattended in secured areas
VIII. Alarm response and security violations
Access control alarms
Alarm response
If an access control alarm occurs:
- Remain at the alarm location.
- Wait for Physical Security to respond.
- Follow all instructions provided by security personnel.
If an individual becomes trapped within a secured area and cannot communicate with security personnel, emergency egress may be used after ten (10) minutes.
IX. Common alarm types
Anti-passback (APB)
To prevent APB alarms:
- Badge when entering and exiting as required.
- Do not tailgate.
- Do not exceed authorized access periods.
Door forced open (DFO)
To prevent DFO alarms:
- Follow posted door instructions.
- Do not use emergency exits except during emergencies.
- Never force or manipulate a secured door.
Door held open (DHO)
To prevent DHO alarms:
- Ensure doors fully close after passage.
- Do not hold doors open unnecessarily.
- Never prop open a secured door.
X. Prohibited activities
The following activities are prohibited:
- Sharing badges
- Using another person's badge
- Propping open secured doors
- Circumventing access control systems
- Entering unauthorized areas
- Allowing unauthorized access
- Tampering with readers, locks, cameras, sensors, or security devices
Tenant-controlled spaces
Certain areas within EdgeCore facilities are controlled by customers and require specific authorization for entry.
Personnel shall only enter tenant-controlled spaces when their assigned badge provides authorized access or when accompanied in accordance with approved escort procedures.
Personnel shall not enter tenant-controlled spaces by following another individual through a secured access point, regardless of familiarity, position, urgency, or whether the door is already open.
XI. Audits and enforcement
Physical Security may conduct periodic badge audits, access reviews, and identity verification checks.
Personnel are required to cooperate with all security verification activities.
Violations of this policy may result in suspension of access privileges, disciplinary action up to and including termination, contract removal, and potential civil or criminal penalties.
