COMMITMENTS
At EdgeCore, we take a holistic, forward-thinking approach to our sustainability efforts. By balancing cost with a focus on responsible construction and operations practices, we strive to make our near and long-term impacts net positive for the planet and the communities in which we operate.
To begin, we design our data centers to meet green certification standards such as LEED and Energy Star®, and we avoid locating our facilities in ecologically sensitive areas. Recognizing that our investment in sustainability doesn’t end at our property lines, we consider how our approach to powering and cooling our facilities impacts surrounding communities and the environment.
Carbon Neutral Programs
EdgeCore addresses our sustainable approach to power consumption at both the national and local levels.
Our memberships in the Clean Energy Buyer’s Association (CEBA), Data Center Coalition (DCC), and iMasons Climate Accord enable us to partner with like-minded companies to advocate for beneficial green building and energy practices throughout the U.S.
Additionally, we work with local municipalities and utilities in each of our data center markets to offer carbon neutral electricity options and zero waste programs on our campuses. We are dedicated to improving our power utilization efficiency (PUE) ratings by continuously re-evaluating our designs and operations in each market to ensure we produce PUEs far under the industry standard.
Water Utilization Efficiency
Water is an essential resource that has become increasingly scarce in some regions of the U.S. EdgeCore is always looking for new ways to refine our data center designs and practices to ensure we are using as little water as possible in our operations.
As an example, we implemented an air-cooled design in our Phoenix and Reno data centers that includes an ultra-efficient close-looped chilled water system, which carries an industry benchmark water usage effectiveness (WUE) rating below .01 L/kWh—a benefit to both the environment and our tenants’ total cost of ownership.
